SBS false accuse parents

(continued from part 1)

All of this because child abuse pediatricians refuse to educate themselves on the new science and medical data available.

We still have to go back to why the gold standard for diagnosing Osteomalacia in adults is the (DEXA) scan, but traditional x-rays are the standard practice for diagnosing rickets in children.   Traditional X-rays show changes in bone density after bone loss of about 40 percent; a DEXA scan can detect changes as small as 1 percent, making it more sensitive and accurate [10].

With all the studies and medical data, child abuse pediatricians and radiologists are testifying against parents without doing a DEXA scan to check bone mineralization when it is readily available, more accurate and has less radiation exposure than the traditional x-ray.

Even when blood tests acknowledge a vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency (<20 ng/ml), they still rely on the results of the traditional x-ray, and the opinion of a radiologist, to rule out rickets and other metabolic bone diseases.

Based on the radiographic results alone, a diagnosis of child abuse is made, and a child is medically kidnapped.

The child abuse pediatricians often go so far as to say there is no evidence of a bone disease or rickets. This makes it difficult for CPS and the courts to accept another doctor’s conclusion for the fractures, which can be due to a metabolic bone disease and/or rickets.

The child abuse pediatrician has already diagnosed abuse, they have ruled out MBD and rickets, and because they are “experts” in child abuse, they have already acted as judge and jury for the family.    See:

Pediatric Child Abuse “Experts” are NOT Experts in Anything

By not utilizing all the diagnostic tools available, such as the (DEXA) scan, these physicians are not acting in good faith. Many times they are claiming there is no evidence of rickets or a metabolic bone disease based solely on the x-rays, disregarding the laboratory data, but still treat the infants for rickets claiming, “vitamin D level is a laboratory value and not a diagnosis of disease.” [11]

The circular reasoning used by the child abuse pediatrician regarding rickets, MBD, and SBS is continuously called into question. Not only by the falsely accused, but by the defense attorneys, the public, and most importantly, other physicians who are questioning this circular reasoning and flawed science used to “diagnose” abuse, and ultimately destroy a family.

With so much controversy surrounding Shaken Baby Syndrome, the   The Swedish Council on Technology and Social Evaluation and the Swedish National Medical Ethics   jointly investigated the scientific basis for the diagnosis of Shaken Baby Syndrome   and concluded:

There is insufficient scientific evidence on which to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the triad in identifying traumatic shaking (very low quality evidence), and there is limited scientific evidence that the triad and therefore its components can be associated with traumatic shaking (low quality evidence) [12].

Spokesmen/women for these hospitals claim the child abuse pediatric teams do not make decisions or recommendations about whether or how cases are pursued, including criminal prosecution, termination of parental rights, or removal of children from their homes.

To that, I ask this: why would the child abuse pediatrician in my case say:   “…he is at risk for further, possibly more significant injuries, including   death   in the environment in which he was physically abused”? [11]

This is the statement that caused a family, my family, to be medically kidnapped.

Child Abuse Pediatricians Destroying Families by Diagnosing “Abuse” When Medical Condition is Rickets

presented here in two parts but complete story at a glance here

SBS false accuse parents

The method of diagnosing rickets in infants has been proven to be incorrect, yet it is still considered the standard practice used by child abuse pediatricians to diagnose abuse in infants and children with blatant disregard for laboratory testing showing a vitamin D deficiency or other metabolic bone disease.

The diagnosis of rickets in infants is left solely on a radiologist, despite blood tests showing deficiency, insufficiency, and efficient vitamin D levels.

X-rays are the standard practice or “gold standard” of diagnosing rickets in infants. Rickets is a condition that affects bone development in children. It causes bone pain, poor growth and soft, weak bones that can lead to bone deformities and fractures.

Adults can experience a similar condition, which is known as osteomalacia or soft bones [1].

The dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA and DEXA scan) is the preferred technology for measuring bone mineralization, because of its   ease of use, low radiation exposure, and ability to measure bone mineral density at both the hip and spine, DEXA is the most commonly used technique to measure bone mineral density [2].

The American Academy of Pediatrics: Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect (AAPCCAN) has issued guidelines for the evaluation of children with multiple unexplained fractures, concluding they are almost always due to abuse.

However, common sense questions still need answering:

  • Why would abusive parents repeatedly seek medical care for the infant they abused?
  • Why would chest trauma severe enough to fracture ribs not also results in lung damage?
  • Why wouldn’t blunt chest trauma cause some inwardly angulated rib fractures instead of all perfectly aligned fracture ends?
  • Wouldn’t parents who beat their infant severely enough to cause multiple fractures show evidence of psychopathology?
  • Do infants who are beaten severely enough to cause multiple fractures show fear in the presence of the abuser?
  • How often do the eyewitnesses to parental/infant interactions report the parents were concerned and loving parents? [3]

It’s shocking what the studies show in regards to radiologists looking at the same images and coming up with two different interpretations.

For example, two radiology professors at Stanford University diagnosed multiple fractures due to rickets on several infants, and concluded that there is a “national and international epidemic” of infantile rickets [4].

In another study, two board certified radiologists examined the same x-rays and diagnosed child abuse [5].

Another study of 41 infants who died due to SID’s found that only 7% of bone biopsy-proven rickets was picked up by pediatric radiologists [6,7].

In a more recent study (2014), a group of 52 children who died of various causes reported histological rickets in 10 children (19%) with vitamin D levels less that 10 ng/ml but pre-morbid x-rays missed the rickets 70% of the time.

In the same study, eight infants with vitamin D levels between 10-20 ng/ml had histological rickets, but pre-morbid radiology was normal in 100% of the infants, three of which had fractures. Again, radiologists missed biopsy-proven rickets more than 80% of the time [8].

Bone biopsy and (DEXA) scans are still not considered the gold standard when it comes to diagnosing rickets in children.   A current textbook of orthopedic pathology states,  “In subtle cases absolute certainty requires tissue examination.”

The author goes on to say, “a bone biopsy is indicated in every patient in whom a cause of fracture is unexplained.” (p.127) [9]

It’s a shame child abuse pediatricians don’t have the same train of thought, which is to be absolutely certain.

They aren’t diagnosing a disease, but a crime.   A crime which, if founded, will result in the destruction of a family.   The parents will lose parental rights of their child, who is often adopted out to strangers, and also sends one or both of the parents to jail.   Not to mention the damage that occurs to the child, who is losing loving parents.

Despite all this knowledge, bone biopsies and even (DEXA) scans are rarely done when children present to a children’s hospital with unexplained fractures.

Instead, the hospital goes into “non-accidental trauma” auto-pilot, ordering tests that are not needed, subjecting the infants to unnecessary radiation exposure.

They are dilating the infant’s eyes to check for retinal hemorrhage when no neurological signs, symptoms or injuries have been noted.

Even when all of these tests come back negative, and all they have are fractures, they still only rely on the radiologist’s conclusion, which is any unexplained fracture is “highly specific” for abuse.

Even when a parent or guardian has a true and reasonable reason for the fracture, the child abuse pediatrician claims the “type” of fracture does not provide an adequate mechanism for the fracture.

A simple (DEXA) scan, which most children’s hospitals have on site, can be done to check for bone mineralization, and still, child abuse pediatricians disregard blood work suggestive of rickets simply because the x-rays do not confirm rickets or any metabolic bone disease.

Instead, they choose to accuse the parents of a crime.   Some stating it is “diagnostic of abuse” which is an extreme amount of medical certainty.

Once the accusation of child abuse is made by a child abuse pediatrician, the family is guilty.   Even though the burden of proof is on the prosecution in the civil case, the family is still the one tasked with finding and paying an attorney, if they are able, and finding and paying expert witnesses to review their case and testify on their behalf.

This doesn’t include the fact their children have been taken away from them, often put in foster care, and the parents are now on the central registry of child abusers.   See:

kitchen-4

Mary, Bea and Henry Lee ran out the door early. Grandma did not come in at all and so they did not run fried chicken on the menu. Except for some snow days when the winter weather was really bad or snowstorms were predicted and imminent, this was one of the slowest nights they’d ever had.

So Bill and Jimmy spent a lot of time in the hall, Bill sitting on his milk cases, Jimmy outside the back door most of the time, smoking cigarettes and daydreaming.

Arlene, Brooklyn, Lilly and Victoria were working. Arlene and Victoria would leave early but not after Arlene spent a lot of time hanging out with Bill in the hall. And for the first time, ever, by her suggestion, she and Bill went downstairs together and added to the stories the walls in this place could tell if they could talk.

That happened when Bill asked Arlene what she wanted for dinner. It was at half past eight and she and Victoria were getting ready to call it quits as soon as Tommy said they could.

“You,” Arlene said after making sure no one could hear her. “Now, here, downstairs.”

They had no orders working, had not had any orders for awhile. Jimmy was standing in the hallway, smoking a cigarette.

“Really,” Bill said, meaning, really what do you want for dinner.

“I just told you what I wanted.”

So Jimmy covered for Bill and no one needed to cover for Arlene because they didn’t have any customers to speak of. The closing girls, Lilly and Brooklyn, got the customers coming in.

Arlene ate a steak. She ate it in the hall with Bill standing by to make sure no one saw. By this time Jimmy was already downstairs changing to go home. Tommy said he was tempted to close early but he said he wouldn’t because you just never knew.

“So they made a bet,” Arlene said. “Fifty bucks for the first one to get with you.”

“You gotta be kidding.”

“No kidding. They heard about the stuff goes on around here and apparently they had a discussion about you and decided you are doable. So they made a friendly bet to see who could get you first.”

“You know,” Bill said, “I was a fat, roly-poly kid with thick glasses and a flat-top haircut. I couldn’t get a girl if I—well you know what I mean. No one would look twice at me. And now, it just keeps coming at me. Where the hell were these girls when I was in high school and college?”

“What it is,” Arlene said. “And that’s what it is too.”

“I’ll just have to do them both together.”

“You need to just keep to yourself. Me, I am not going to say anything to your fiancé. I’m bowing out gracefully and going to stay your friend. I suspect Lorraine is doing the same thing and Mary will too. So take it from me, pal, stay away from those two.”

Bill smiled. Jimmy came up the stairs and walked out the back door after saying good night to Bill and Arlene. Victoria came in and found them out in the hall. Bill cut her a piece of prime rib and cut it into pieces before putting it on a plate. He put a baked potato and vegetables on the plate with the meat. She sat in the hall with Arlene and Bill to eat.

“Never seen it this slow,” she said.

“Some snow nights have been like this,” Bill said.

“Well I sure didn’t make any money. No one is making any money.”

“Thank God for yesterday,” Arlene said.

media manipulation

The Democrats are fond of saying that they speak for America. That is their first mistake. They don’t speak for at least the 63 million people who voted for President Trump. They might speak for the people who live in the Democrat-run cities. Maybe.

They get away with saying that they speak for America because Pravda USA, the mainstream media and social media, are nothing more these days than an arm of the Democratic Party. So the Democrats say something, the mainstream media and social media, Pravda USA, repeat it endlessly as if it were set in loop motion of a DVD or cassette tape.

Just recently, published here, was an opinion piece advancing the idea that Pravda USA, our mainstream media and social media, much of which is owned by private, independent billionaire Trump-hating people, is perhaps America’s greatest danger.

Which brings us to the information police. It’s not just Pravda USA, the mainstream media and our social media, that act as the information police. If you’re a betting person, you can bet that the information we get has been policed and limited for much longer than the period of time we’re looking at here. Probably, probably most definitely, it goes way back, certainly to the time when there were three TV networks and some radio, and more likely all the way back in our history.

But never has it been more apparent, more insidious and more dangerous than now.

Think about it! When Janet Reno, Obama’s Attorney General, told state attorneys general to prosecute people who came up with scientific findings which differed from the government’s position on climate change, this put information police on a new level.

Imagine! What Janet Reno did was tantamount to changing the very nature and definition of science. Science, she said by doing what she did, is what we say it is.

Remember, as well, most of those people researching climate change were funded by the government. Or, their funding depended upon the government being happy with what they did. Or, their funding was premised by their finding what the government wanted them to find.

This is dangerous stuff. It’s going on all around us with revisionist history, with Progressives dominating the universities and teaching what they want students to know as opposed to our real history.

Still out there somewhere is truth. Truth be told, there are many truths. But in today’s world, the distinction between feelings and facts is muddled. If you feel someone has hurt your feelings, as the lefties do, you can proclaim them a racist, a fascist a whatever-you-want-to-proclaim them, and if you’re on that lefty side, Pravda USA, our mainstream media and social media, will make it so.

It gets worse, or better depending upon which side you’re on and which pill you’ve swallowed. The mainstream media, Pravda USA, fact checkers, along with Hillary’s fact checkers, are not really trustworthy fact checkers. They are part of the information police. Real fact checkers check all facts, check all research, find out what’s real and what isn’t. Biased fact checkers are simply information police.

We’ve come into the era of the PCP (political-correctness police),  and now the IP (the information police). This is an era where feelings are facts and facts are subjective. Together these things are the biggest threat to America and they are leading us in directions no one really wants to go.

Don’t think so? Want to live in a place where you can be arrested for what you think? Gee, we used to think that was places like Russia, Cuba, and Communist China.  Maybe, it’s coming to here now.

based upon a true story

The law says you have to have a hearing within three days. The weekend was in between so it would be six days before we got into court.

I was hard-pressed to find a lawyer. I called the GP lawyer I used and he recommended someone he knew of but didn’t actually know. I called immediately. Wow! Three hundred fifty dollars an hour and a five thousand dollar retainer. Where am I supposed to get this money, I asked. There was an awkward silence on the phone.

I made just barely too much money to be eligible for legal aid. What an eye opener that was. If I were an illegal alien I could have gotten legal aid. If I were an immigrant there were agencies to help me. It seemed as if I were all alone. And I was all alone, literally, my house was empty.

So I sucked it up. I called several friends and they all told me not to worry, to just go into court by myself and tell the judge what happened. Surely, they all agreed separately, the judge would believe me. No one could imagine that a judge wouldn’t believe me. I had no record. I had no previous contact with CPS. I’d never been in trouble. I was just a regular mom raising two kids on her own.

Yeah right. And pigs fly.

It was one of the worst weekends of my life. I cried all weekend long. My friends came over and sat with me for as long as they could. No one would dare bring their kids because they were afraid it would just plain set me off.

My parents live in a different state, so they couldn’t help other than to offer me support by phone. My father told me I needed to have a lawyer. I told him I couldn’t afford what lawyers cost. (When all was said and done, the legal bill would be well over $100,000.) He told me I couldn’t afford not to have a lawyer.

I listened to my father and called the lawyer back to retain him. We set up the meeting for the next day but I could only come up with a little over thousand dollars. My father agreed to send me some money, enough to cover the retainer, but it would take a few days for the check to arrive.

The lawyer took my check for a thousand dollars and said he could wait until the check from my father arrived for the rest of the retainer. In the course of things, the way things go, that was pretty nice of him altogether. He told me not to worry, that he couldn’t imagine this was anything other than a mistake and that if things went the way he hoped they would my kids would be returned after the hearing.

Yeah. Right.

I cried and cried and cried. Each morning for the next six days I would get up in despair, with this knot in the pit of my stomach and a headache that wouldn’t go away. I thought about going to my doctor to get something for the stress but the lawyer told me at the meeting to stay away from anything like that because anything like that would work against me.

I don’t want to say he was smug. I know he really felt for me and wanted to help me. But there I was in a law firm that owned its own building, and there he was behind a desk which probably cost more than all of my furniture altogether, wearing a suit that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe and the wardrobes of my kids too. Such is the way of the world, I was to discover.

Oh God! How naïve and stupid I was. How innocent I was. I really believed that people were good and that they wanted the best for everyone.

They decided to swipe a bottle off the boss’ bar instead of going out to the liquor store. Immediately after the lunch service, Henry Lee did this. Bill went downstairs with him and took a good, long drink before both he and Henry Lee went back up to eat their lunches.

Mary ate tuna on rye. Bea ate chicken salad on a hamburger bun. Henry Lee ate a steak. Bill ate a rare roast beef sandwich on a hamburger bun with tomato and mayonnaise. He and Henry Lee drank beer.

Bill sat next to Mary in the booth. Mary reached several times for his beer and helped herself to it. When it was getting low, Bill asked Brooklyn, the waitress who happened to be in the room, to bring two more. She asked him what was in it for her and made a little kind of shimmy. Bill flashed her a big, big smile and told her “You never know until you know.”

Henry Lee, seeing this, said one word, shit, all drawn out to sound like she-it. “Shee-it.”

Mary elbowed Bill in the side. Bea did not say anything. She kept eating, drinking sometimes from Henry Lee’s beer.

After awhile Henry Lee said, “Anything we should know?”

Bill shrugged his shoulders. “Not that I know of. I ain’t done nothing.”

“Must’ve done something,” Mary said.

Bill said, “Don’t worry. I’ll find out. But I haven’t done anything, haven’t even flirted, not really.”

“What does not really mean?” Mary asked.

“Means I haven’t done anything.”

“If you say so.”

“I do say so. But like I said, I’ll find out.”

They all laughed. They all had a good laugh. It was a slow day, a recovery day from the record-busting, record-setting day they’d had yesterday.

After lunch, still no orders coming in and things very quiet, Bill and Henry Lee went downstairs. They smoked a joint in the deep freeze, drank some bourbon. Then Henry Lee went to work cutting meat. Bill began carting up shrimp and pickerel to be breaded. Mary was already cutting onions into the onion rings they would bread.

Same old shit, different day.

Because inventory of just about everything was depleted, Bill and Mary breaded tray after tray of things. Bill carried the trays down to the freezer, two by two when he could.

He and Mary stood for about two hours doing the breading. The only time they washed their hands and went away from it was when the other things they were working on required tending to. Mary had to stir the sauces on her stoves. She had to stir the pan of yellow rice that was cooking too. After the breading was done, she would make sure all the desserts were taken care of.

Bill took one of the times Mary was away from the breading to wash and tray up baking potatoes for the dinner service. He did this quickly and efficiently such that he and Mary were ready to go back to work together. But before they did, he took her by the hand, led her downstairs and into the meat room. Together with Henry Lee they smoked a joint, drank some bourbon, rested a moment teasing each other about their lives.

Back upstairs, Bill and Mary finished all the breading. They worked as quickly as they could to get it all done. Once the station was all cleaned up and everything put away, Bill went about building the steam table and setting up for the dinner. He worked quickly and efficiently, by rote, and when that was all done it was almost time to take out the baked potatoes.

Meanwhile, Mary finished up everything on her station and made sure everything for the desserts was done and set in place. Waitresses were now coming in and out of the kitchen getting what they needed from the dishwasher station for their bus stations.

Another day shift.

cropped-quill-pen-300x3001.jpgI don’t usually do this, but this was sent from a friend of mine. So I’m posting it here.

PLEASE READ THIS.

If you’re a woman & may be alive in 20 years, you need to understand ………20 years from now, I will be in Heaven – This was written by a woman born in Egypt as a Muslim. Make sure you read to the end.

Joys of Muslim Women

By Nonie Darwish (born a Muslim)

In the Muslim faith a Muslim man may marry a child as young as 1 year old and have sexual intimacy with this child. Consummating the marriage by 9

The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the woman, to use her as a toy.

Even though a woman is abused she cannot obtain a divorce To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses.

Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must return the dowry.

The family has the right to execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family.

Husbands can beat their wives ‘at will’ and he does not have to say why he has beaten her.

The husband is permitted to have (4 wives) and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.

The Sharia Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.

(In twenty years, (20), there will be enough Muslim voters in Canada, Australia, the U.S. And Britain To elect the heads of Government by themselves!

Rest assured they will do so… You can look at how they have almost taken over several towns in the USA.. Dearborn Mich. is one and there are others.. Britain has several cities now with Sharia Law controlled zones, totally controlled by Muslims)

I think everyone in Canada, Australia, the U.S And Great Britain should be required to read this, but with the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

It is too bad that so many are disillusioned with life and Christianity to accept Muslims as peaceful. Some may be but they have an army that is willing to shed blood in the name of Islam.

The peaceful support the warriors with their finances and own kind of patriotism to their religion. They are taught to peacefully work alongside Christians & others to get into all positions for future takeover. They will be nice to you until the day of Jihad, then you either convert or lose your head. They will no longer be your friend for they will have gotten from you what they need!

While Canada, Australia, the U.S.A. and Britain are getting rid of Christianity from all public sites and erasing God from the lives of children the Muslims are planning a great jihad on North America, Australia and Britain.

This is your chance to make a difference!

Pass it on….. By doing NOTHING! you do nothing for your grand-children… especially your GRAND DAUGHTERS… give that a minute to sink in… want to pass it along now?

The hardest hit in the USA will be the naïve bleeding heart WOMEN who will become slaves with NO rights… or die! Today’s women leaders should be fighting this tooth & nail!

media manipulationMost of the mainstream media and the “Free Press” like to stand behind the notion that they are actually journalists who are unbiased and present stories as they are. However, that is no longer true in America, and a biased press and social media, Pravda USA, is not only here but is America’s greatest danger.

Studies show that a full 92% of stories in the media about President Trump are negative stories. In the first sixty days of his presidency, 62% of the stories about him were negative, that’s only ten percentage points less than the negative stories about Clinton, Bush and Obama in their first sixty days combined.

One thing is clear. No matter how much you might not like President Trump, 92% of what he does is not negative.

So that leads to some questions. What has changed in the media? Where have the unbiased reporters gone? Where is this all leading us?

The Democrats were devastated having lost the election in 2016. You’ve heard the stories about the darkened Hillary Clinton celebration room, about the people crying, about the people, celebrities, walking in, turning around and walking out.

Even before that night, as we’re finding out now, although you wouldn’t know it from listening to the mainstream media, the campaign to de-legitimize Trump had begun. It was an organized campaign reaching back into the Obama-Biden White House. In their last weeks, Obama unleashed the dogs of war by allowing intelligence information to be disseminated among seventeen intelligence agencies instead of the previous three. This paved the way for all the deep-state leaks to occur without them being traced.

By this time the Steele Dossier had been commissioned and written, the FISA warrants were ongoing and those FBI lovebirds were already talking about the insurance policy. On the night of the election, when Trump won, the plot that had already been hatched was simply put into hyper-gear.

Those of you who’ve swallowed the blue pill will deny these things. Of course, that’s your choice because at least for now this is still America.

But here’s the rub. If Pravda USA, our mainstream media and social media, all of which now serve as an arm of the Democratic Party, are allowed to continue unchecked, we will not be America for long. If you don’t believe that, you can stay ensconced in the effects of that blue pill or you can check out what the media does in any socialist country, in any communist country, in any totalitarian country. In fact, for those of you who swallowed the blue pill, please, check out all facts instead of quoting/re-posting the ones the CNN/NBC/Hillary Clinton fact checkers check.

Would be that all of this were only about ideology. But the fight here in America, now a political fight pure and simple, is no longer about ideology. The Democrats, aided and abetted by the mainstream media and social media, much of which is owned by billionaire Trump-haters, are fighting for power and domination. If the woke mainstream media does not wake up, which it doesn’t seem it will, in the scope of things, they will have been nothing more but an instrument of the destruction of this country as we know it.

That’s it in a nutshell. Our mainstream media, Pravda USA, is suppressing a realistic idea of what’s actually going on in this country, purposefully and willfully. They would have you believe things that are nonsensical, things for which there are no facts, things that are simply not true.

This is dangerous pure and simple. Our mainstream media, Pravda USA, is America’s greatest danger.

kitchen-4

They started completely fresh the next day. Monday morning, like usual, Mary, Bea and Bill were in on time and started work. Tommy opened up like always and they went through the waking of the kitchen. They started  coffee and headed downstairs to change into uniforms. Mary stopped at her menu board to refresh her mind about what she needed to do. Bea took an inventory of all the desserts before she went downstairs so she could tell Mary what she and Bill had to cook off in that area.

First thing Bill had to do was cart up a round. He was not surprised when he did not find one cut,  so even before he went up to help himself to a coffee, he set about taking out a whole round and cutting it in half. Done with that, he wrapped the half he wasn’t going to use in film and set it back into the walk-in. Then he trudged up the stairs carrying the half-round they were going to cook on a flat meat tray on his shoulder.

Still before he helped himself to coffee, he and Mary set up the round and put it into the oven. It would cook now all the way until the lunch started, and maybe even a little longer if need be. Mary still had a little bit left over from Friday, and they could use that for the start, unless an order was specifically for rare-cooked meat.

Only when they had started everything that needed starting did Bill and Mary take time for coffee. Bea as per usual was sitting on her stool reading the racing page in the newspaper. Bill gave her ten dollars to play his and Mary’s numbers for the week and they all stood together by Bea drinking their coffee.

While they were there in the corner Tommy came in the kitchen. He poured himself a mug of coffee too and asked if they were all set for the day. It was an easy answer actually. Bea told Tommy that she had to do everything from scratch. She told him this was a good thing, that everything would be fresh. Mary said pretty much the same, but she added on that they had to do just about everything  soup to nuts, meaning everything. She told Tommy that even most of the fried things were gone and that she and Bill would be spending a good part of the afternoon breading shrimp, pickerel and onion rings. She ended what she was saying with her usual, “Lord have mercy.”

Henry Lee came in at nine. From what Bill could see, he seemed a bit hung over. He was already limping on his bad leg and that meant he was in pain. That also meant Henry Lee would be hitting the bourbon early and often through the course of his day, and most likely they would be going out to the liquor store to buy a bottle.

So the morning wore on, Mother’s Day now just another day in the past. Tommy had an official count, 1547 covers, 1236 of which were steaks. Henry Lee’s response was a simple “Goddamn,” and Bill was awfully proud of himself since he only burned four of all those steaks he cooked.

By the time the lunch service started, when everyone was in and going about their work, including the dishwashers, Bill and Henry Lee had been drinking for several hours and had smoked two joints in the deep freeze. Mary had come down to smoke one joint with them, then very much unlike her, she took a good hit of the bourbon before she went upstairs.

Bill and Henry Lee, for the hour or so that they had working together, had done a good job of beginning getting the meat inventory up to where it should be.

Happiness was that it was a Monday and in all likelihood it would be slow.

based upon a true story

Related imageSo it happened like this. He went out in the backyard with his friend where we have one of those bounce-screens that you can throw a baseball against and have it bounced back to you to catch. Jimmy likes to play on that, plays on it all the time. But this morning was different. For some reason, when his friend threw the ball up to the screen, Jimmy wasn’t looking and the ball bounced back and hit him in the eye.

I didn’t know it right away. Apparently he and his friend were having a great time, and like what happens with boys, at first they were throwing it nice and easy against the screen so that it was easy to catch. But they got a little bit excited, started throwing harder, and maybe competition kicked in so that one tried to best the other by throwing it harder and eventually they were throwing it really hard. It was one of those hard throws bouncing back that hit Jimmy in the eye.

I knew something was wrong when both boys came running in the house, Jimmy’s friend first holding the door for Jimmy. Jimmy had his hand over his eye and by the time I saw it, it was already swelling and all red. I told him sit down, and they both did, and I went to the freezer and got some ice which I put into a dish towel. At first I held the towel on Jimmy’s eye. But I still had to pack his lunch, and his sister was there sitting at the table in her high chair. Poor little thing, she had no idea what was about to happen to her or  why. Just an innocent. We were all so innocent.

I shouldn’t have sent Jimmy to school. I should have kept him home, packed up his sister and taken them the doctor. But after having the ice on it for about 15 minutes, Jimmy said he was okay and that he wanted to go to school.

Stupid me. I sent him and his friend off on the school bus.

Then nothing. I did my regular day, took care of my daughter, took care of the house, ran errands, did all I usually do. Everything was fine. Just fine. No calls, nothing out of the ordinary.

About the time for the school bus, I began fixing Jimmy’s snack. My daughter was with me in the kitchen. No big deal. I made peanut butter and jelly for both of them, and she was eating hers in her high chair when the bus came. But there was no Jimmy.

Imagine.

So I called the school.

That’s when I learned that Jimmy had gone to the nurse and the nurse had called in the principal and the principal had called CPS. CPS came to the school at dismissal and took him. I wasn’t told, I didn’t know, I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t called the school.

About four o’clock in the afternoon, CPS came with the police and took my daughter.

I was already frantic. I didn’t know what to do or who to call. I tried to show them the bounce-screen and explain what happened, but they flashed some paperwork in my face, didn’t listen to a thing,  didn’t look at what I tried to show them, left me a carbon and absconded with my daughter.
